Still smiling thinking about last weekend. How luc Still smiling thinking about last weekend. How lucky am I that two of my BFFs @krismk8 and @rado_tornado flew out to my little desert town to see No Doubt at The Sphere?

We floated in the pool, laughed way too hard, got in one group workout to feel slightly less guilty, paddle boarded on Lake Mead, wandered through the really cool No Doubt experience, and of course got to sing along with No Doubt!

There’s something really special about being with people who have seen you through so many phases of life and still make you laugh exactly the same way they always have. 💛

Desert tortoise appreciation post from volunteerin Desert tortoise appreciation post from volunteering with @TortoiseGroup this week.

These creatures look like they possess the knowledge of the universe, and honestly, they just might.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting a captive desert tortoise, reach out to the Tortoise Group. There are tortoises waiting for safe, permanent homes, and these ancient little faces deserve the best.

Mountain chickadees are winter wonderland survivor Mountain chickadees are winter wonderland survivors. They spend winter up in snowy mountain forests somehow thriving in conditions that make me complain after five minutes outside.

Their famous chick-a-dee-dee-dee calls actually change depending on danger level. More “dee” notes usually means a greater threat nearby, like a sharp-shinned hawk cruising through. Tiny feathered alarm systems.

I love these tiny woodland weirdos with my entire heart.
Detoured up to Tahoe after work training because I Detoured up to Tahoe after work training because I have priorities in life, and those priorities include driving into a snowstorm to hang out with (ahem… chase) mountain chickadees.

Kaitlin and I ended up having the most magical little Snow White adventure at Chickadee Ridge. It was just us, a magical snowstorm, and chickadees. (Could I have died happy? Probably. Death by chickadees sounds like the most DEE-DEE-DEE-lightful way to go!)

There are honestly no words for how overwhelmingly happy those tiny birds make me. My brain basically short-circuits into pure serotonin every single time.

Spent last week up in Carson City in the Great Bas Spent last week up in Carson City in the Great Basin (mmm sagebrush!) getting my hands dirty with AIM training alongside a great crew of Dudekians.

We really got into the nitty gritty of Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring. Lots of digging soil pits, keying out plants, measuring vegetation, and learning how all those pieces come together to tell the story of a landscape.

A little ecology, a little soil science, a little botany, and a whole lot of teamwork.

Also just really fun to be out in that wide open Nevada landscape and get some in-person time with people I don’t always get to see. And a chance to get nerdy in the dirty, YEE HAW! Thanks @kristinoelperkins for taking photos of the photographer!

Two years ago today, I had the absolute joy of pho Two years ago today, I had the absolute joy of photographing Kaitlyn and Kyle’s wedding at the beautiful Brigalias. What a day it was! From the moment Kaitlyn stepped out in her sparkly, floral dress to the surprise first dance with her mom, it was a celebration packed with heartfelt moments, hilarious memories, and some seriously epic dance moves. Having known Kaitlyn’s family for nearly 30 years, it truly felt like I was part of the celebration, which made it all the more special.

The day was filled with love, and the way these two lit up together is something I’ll never forget. It’s been such an honor to capture their story, and I can’t wait to see what the next year brings for them.

Here’s to a lifetime of belly laughs, spontaneous adventures, and unforgettable memories! Happy Anniversary, you two! 🥳✨

PART II (continued from last post) The Earth is th PART II (continued from last post) The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

And some beautiful landscapes I've had the joy of experiencing in my ride around the universe on planet Earth, our amazing pale blue dot we get to call HOME!
In honor of Earth Day, here is one of my favorite In honor of Earth Day, here is one of my favorite excerpts from Carl Sagan's book Pale Blue Dot:

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. PART 2 continues in next post because this excerpt is gold in its full context!
Happy wedding celebration anniversary! These two g Happy wedding celebration anniversary! These two got married under this majestic oak back in 2020 surrounded by the magic landscapes of Paicines Ranch. We went back out to the oak under the night skies next to that ancient valley oak and they had a blast dancing in their wedding costumes.

Wishing you two amazing humans the happiest celebration of love, silliness, and bird costume magic for now and forever!
